Ascendancy (Duelist – Slayer)

Overwhelm

Overwhelm puts your Critical Strike Chance to 8% base which is a great start to start scaling increased Critical Strike Chance. Since you’re a crit build, you need this as you won’t ever be using a high-base critical Weapon so get this early and don’t worry about crit much more ever after.

Brutal Fervour

Slayer’s strongest node, in a vacuum. Allows you to overleech which is a sick defensive mechanic. Combined with Vaal Pact & enough damage, this keeps you topped up almost all the time and makes it really hard to die unless you’re getting one shot.

Impact

Impact is a really nice node for Melee archetypes. It gets you a decent chunk of accuracy as well as some much needed Clear & Damage. Pretty solid ascendancy point overall. Right about your third lab is where you’re going to see enough Density & Evasive monsters to make the most of the accuracy & area of effect.

Bane of Legends

Another generic Damage node with the small upside of being able to run Physical Reflect maps. Since you’re running Brutality, you can therefore run all reflect maps (both Phys & Elemental Reflect) which is really nice.

Headsman

Through Forbidden Flesh & Flame you can unlock a 5th Ascendancy notable. Generally, this will be expensive, but Headsman is worth it! A Huge 20% More Damage (yes, culling is actually 20 more damage) as well as some Move & Attack Speed is a really really big spike in power.)

Just to clarify, you can get any Ascendancy through the Forbidden Flesh and Forbidden Flame. The reason why one of the Ascendancies is listed 5th, is to clarify that this is the last one you would want and you would allocate the other 4 naturally before acquiring a FF combination. So, whenever you can obtain the jewel combination, you can unallocate whichever notable you’re getting from them, and allocate Headsman instead.

Briefly, this means the last ascendancy you should pick is Headsman, but you can get Impact, Overwhelm and Brutal Fevour FF pairs and respec with 10 refund points if those pairs are cheaper

Bandits

There really only is one option here. You want to kill all for Skill Points. Sure, getting some Resistances and Mana Regeneration from Alira isn’t terrible as a league starter but capping resistances really isn’t an issue on this build! Eramir just offers so much flexibility that it almost always is better than the others!

Pantheons

Major Gods

Soul of the Brine King can make you run boots that don’t have Freeze Immunity but only Chill Immunity. If you have the perfect boots though, Lunaris is always nice as a Melee Build.

Minor Gods

I would recommend Soul of Abberath. You basically need Burning Ground immunity nowadays in PoE unless you’re actively avoiding Exarch Altars, Harbingers, Trail of Fires, …

Upgrading your Pantheons

Pantheon powers can be upgraded by using Divine Vessel Divine Vessel in the Map Device while you are activating the particular Map that contains the boss you need. Once you’ve killed the boss and captured his soul, you can consume the Divine Vessel Divine Vessel, which shows up filled in the map device, or deliver it to Sin in Oriath for extra dialogue relating to the game’s lore.
